Title: Global macOS hotkey to open Cursor Agent (like Claude/ChatGPT desktop apps)

Product/service: Cursor IDE

Description:

Both Anthropic (Claude desktop app) and OpenAI (ChatGPT desktop app) offer a global macOS hotkey that instantly opens a conversation overlay from anywhere — Option+Space for Claude, Option+O for ChatGPT. This has become the expected UX for AI assistants on desktop.

Cursor should have the same. A system-wide shortcut that opens a lightweight Cursor Agent prompt from anywhere in macOS, without needing the IDE to be focused.

The current workarounds (CLI agent command, deeplinks) require manual setup through third-party tools. A native global hotkey would put Cursor on equal footing with Claude and ChatGPT as an always-available AI assistant — but with the advantage of workspace context, MCP tools, and agent capabilities that those apps don’t have.

Ideally:

Configurable global shortcut (e.g. Cmd+Shift+Space)
Lightweight overlay or floating window, not the full IDE
Option to attach the current workspace or start context-free
Support for clipboard/selection context
Works when Cursor is backgrounded or minimized
Cursor already has the most capable agent — it just needs to be as accessible as the competition.
