Grok Bot app still sends notification if I leave app shortly after response

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

If I leave Grok Bot app shortly after I receive a response, I still get an iOS or Mac notification, as if the app didn’t register that I’ve already read the response.

I often click the notification thinking Grok sent another subsequent message, but there’s nothing new there, the notification is for my last read message.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Type a prompt and receive its answer.
  2. Leave the app within 3-5 seconds*.

*could be more; it’s often after enough time to skim the response. I’m not being nitpicky, this actually happens to me with normal use.

Expected Behavior

If a message was read and I leave the Grok Bot app, no notification should ensue.

Operating System

MacOS
iOS

Version Information

Grok Bot MacOS: 0.47.0
Grok Bot iOS (iPhone): 1.8.0

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @a7u, thanks for the report, and your description matches what we see on our side.

Right now the notification is decided when the Bot finishes wrapping up its turn, which happens a few seconds after the last message appears on screen. At that moment it only checks whether the app is in front, not whether you already read the reply. So if you switch away during those few seconds, you get a notification for a message you have already seen. This is a known issue we are already tracking, and I have added your report to it.

There is no setting to change this yet. Until it is fixed, the notification will not fire if you stay in the app until the Bot’s “working” indicator clears, but we know that is not a real fix.
