When I try to update the Bot’s Computer (Settings → Bot → Bot Computer → Actualizar el ordenador / Update Computer), I get this error:

“Your computer’s files aren’t ready. Try again in a moment.”

The Update button is blocked. Reset Computer is also visible but I have not used it yet.

This started today (October 14, 2026, around 14:12 WEST / Lisbon time). I am using the Grok Bot app on iPhone.

**Steps to Reproduce**

1. Open Grok Bot on iOS.

2. Go to Settings → Bot → Bot Computer (Ordenador del Bot).

3. Tap “Actualizar el ordenador” / Update Computer.

4. The dialog appears with “Actualización no disponible – Your computer’s files aren’t ready. Try again in a moment.”

**What I’ve already tried**

• Waited several minutes and retried.

• Fully force-quit the app (swiped away) and reopened it.

• Retried Update after reopening.

**Expected Behavior**

Update Computer should run (or Recover should be available) and the cloud computer should update while preserving bots, files, and logins.

**Operating System**

iOS (iPhone)

**Version Information**

Grok Bot (latest from App Store) — SuperGrok account

**Additional Information**

Account is SuperGrok. I have not clicked Reset Computer yet, as I prefer to preserve the current state if possible. Happy to provide more details or screenshots if needed.

Hey @Fabio_Oliveira, thanks for the report, and good call holding off on Reset.

That message is the update protecting your data. Before it moves your computer to the new version, it makes a complete backup of every Bot. Right now one of your Bots isn’t backing up cleanly, so the update stops and leaves your computer exactly as it is. Your Bots, files, and logins are untouched, and I’ve flagged this to the team.

In the meantime:

- Keep using your computer as normal. You don’t need this update to keep working.
- Please don’t use Reset Computer for now. Reset rebuilds your computer from its saved backup, and the Bot that isn’t backing up could come back without its recent messages.

Could you help us find the Bot that isn’t backing up?

1. Open Grok Bot on your iPhone.
2. Open your first Bot.
3. Send it a short message, like “hi”.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each of your Bots.

Does any Bot fail to open, show “Failed to send”, or look empty? If so, reply with that Bot’s name and roughly when you last used it.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the guidance. I just tested all of my bots, and they all appear to be responding normally. No errors or empty responses were found.

Best regards,

Thanks for checking all of your Bots, that’s really helpful, and good to hear they’re all responding normally.

Since your reply, things look better on our side: the backups of your Bots are completing normally again.

Could you try Update Computer one more time? (Settings → Bot → Bot Computer → Update Computer)

If it goes through, you’re all set. If you still see “Your computer’s files aren’t ready”, please reply with roughly what time you tapped it, and keep holding off on Reset Computer for now.

Hi Colin,

I’m experiencing the same issue with my Grok Bot computer, but unfortunately, it hasn’t been resolved on my end.

I followed your suggested “Hi” method with all my bots. However, only the bot that originally requested the computer update responded, saying it was checking whether its computer was responding again.

I’ve also attempted to update the bot’s computer from both my PC and iPhone, restarted both applications, and tried the update again, but the issue persists.

I noticed that Fábio’s issue has been resolved. Could you please check whether my account is experiencing the same backup-related problem?

I’m currently working on a time-sensitive automation project, and this issue is preventing my Architect Bot from continuing its development work.

I haven’t used Reset Computer, as you advised, because I don’t want to risk losing my bots’ existing work, files, or conversation history.

I’d appreciate any assistance or workaround you can provide. Thank you!

Hi @Colin,

I’m having the same issue. Since about 17:00 Irish time (UTC+1) today, October 14, 2026, my Grok Bot computer has been unresponsive. All my bots share it, and none of them can run commands, use the browser or run their routines.

When I tap Update Computer (tried on both my PC and iPhone, several times between about 18:30 and 19:20 Irish time), I get “Your computer’s files aren’t ready. Try again in a moment.” I have not used Reset Computer, as advised, because I don’t want to lose logins and files.

It’s time-sensitive: I have a product launch tonight at 0:00 German time (23:00 Irish time), and a scheduled routine on the bot computer needs to run for it.

Could you please check whether my account has the same backup problem and help get the update through?

Thank you so much!
Jana

Hi @david_john_perez, @JanaFelicitas and @seanlindsay21, thanks for the reports, and thanks for holding off on Reset.

What you ran into yesterday was a different problem from the original post here. From about 13:00 to 21:00 UTC on October 14, many Bot computers stopped responding (it was also posted on our status page: [Cursor Status - Investigating service degradation — Grok Bot](https://stspg.io/tp05ff30h17j)). While a computer is frozen, Update can’t make the backup it needs before moving your computer, so it shows “Your computer’s files aren’t ready” and leaves everything as it is. That was resolved last night.

:

Same issue. “Your computer’s files aren’t ready” on Update Computer since Oct 15, ~01:14 CEST (tried iPhone and Mac, several times, last ~12:40 CEST). All bots open and reply normally; I deleted old archived bots. Box is up 21 days, RAM and swap ~85% full. I have not used Reset. Happy to keep Grok Bot closed on all devices while you move it.

Hi @Valentin_Bladt, thanks for the report, and thanks for holding off on Reset.

Your computer is running into a different issue from the others in this thread. The computer itself is working fine, but for a while now it hasn’t been able to save its backup copy. Update needs a fresh backup before it moves your computer, so it stops and leaves everything as it is. Your Bots, files and logins on the computer are untouched. This is a known issue we’re already tracking, and I’ve added your report to it.

In the meantime:

- Keep using your computer as normal. You don’t need this update to keep working, and retrying it won’t help for now.
- Please don’t use Reset Computer. Reset rebuilds your computer from its saved backup, and since that backup is out of date, recent work could be lost.
- If there are files on the computer you can’t afford to lose, it’s worth having one of your Bots send you a copy, or upload them somewhere you control.

Here’s a reply you can post to Colin:

Hi Colin, here’s a status update on my Grok Bot computer (measured Oct 16, 22:13 CEST):

- RAM: 13.9 of 16 GB used, about 2.2 GB available.
- Swap: 14.1 of 16 GB used, which is roughly 86%.
- Disk: 67 of 126 GB used (56%), so that’s fine.
- Uptime: 22.5 days, because Update still fails with “files aren’t ready”.
- Processes: 63 Xvfb desktops, 184 Chrome processes (about 6 GB), 404 node processes (about 22 GB, much of it in swap), and 739 exec-daemon processes.

Here’s what we’ve done since your last reply. We didn’t retry Update or Reset. All bots now prefer connectors over the browser, close their tabs when they’re done, and spread out their routine times. Today we asked the 10 most active bots to close everything they weren’t using, but only 3 tabs were open, and RAM and swap barely moved. So the load seems to come from the idle desktops themselves, not from the bots’ browser tabs.

Questions:

1. Is there an ETA for the fix that auto-closes idle desktops, or for the backup issue that blocks Update?
2. Is there anything safe I can do now to free memory without deleting bots?
3. Once the fix is out, should I run Update normally, or do you recommend something else to keep my data safe?

Thanks!

Hi Colin,

Quick update: my Grok Bot computer was renewed today, Oct 17, around 12:00 CEST.

The good news: memory looks healthy now. RAM is at 9.8 of 16 GB, swap is at 0, and only 9 desktops are running instead of 63.

The bad news: most of my files are missing on the new computer.

- /workspace/bots has 2 folders left out of 61.
- /workspace/projekter has lost every project status file.
- /workspace/codex-plan, a 17 GB repo with uncommitted work, is gone completely.

Could you tell me:

1. Are the files still being restored, or are they lost?
2. If they’re lost, can Cursor restore them from your side?

We’ve had to wait several days with a computer that couldn’t update. On top of that we’ve spent time and quota on workarounds, pausing bots, and making backups, and now we’ve lost data anyway. We’re on the Ultra plan, so this shouldn’t happen. Is there any compensation for the downtime and the lost work?

Thanks,
Valentin
