Grok Bot failed to respond after Update and Reset — Windows 0.59.1

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

Every message fails with: Bot failed to respond. Something went wrong while generating the reply. Try again.
Windows Grok Bot 0.59.1 (DESKTOP-ANNETTE). Pacific Time. Saturday, September 26, 2026, 1:29 AM through 2:27 AM. Also failing for several days before that.
The app shows “Bot is working,” then the red error. Even “hello” fails.
Already tried:

Restart to Update to 0.59.1
Update Grok Bot’s Computer (finished)
Reset Grok Bot’s Computer once (finished)
Sent hello again after Reset

Same error. Chat history is still visible. Weekly usage was about 30%, not the limit.
Please recover my Grok Bot computer from your side. Do not delete my Bots or chats.

Steps to Reproduce

Open Grok Bot on Windows.
Open the existing Bot chat.
Send hello.
The red error appears: Bot failed to respond. Something went wrong while generating the reply. Try again.
Settings → Updates → Restart to Update to 0.59.1. Send hello again. Same error.
Settings → Updates → Update Grok Bot’s Computer. Wait until it says the computer is on the latest version. Send hello again. Same error.
Settings → Updates → Reset Grok Bot’s Computer once. Wait until it finishes. Send hello again. Same error.

Expected Behavior

The Bot should answer hello with a normal reply. The old chat should keep working after Update or Reset.

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hey, thanks for the detailed report and the list of things you already tried.

Good news: your Grok Bot computer is fine. There’s nothing to restore there, and Update or Reset won’t help. The issue is tied to one specific chat. Something in that chat history, likely an image that was added earlier, causes a crash on every new message, even “hello”. That’s why the error comes back after any Reset. That chat state is stored on our side.

What you can do right now to avoid being blocked: create a new Bot or start a new chat and use that. Your second bot replies normally, so a new one should work too. You don’t need to delete the old bot or old chats. They’re safe, and you won’t lose anything.

I’ve shared this with the team so we can get that chat working again. I’ll reply here when there’s an update.

Hi, Dean,

Thank you for the information. I don’t really want to use a new Bot. I’d rather wait for you to fix the problem with Grok Bot itself.

Is that OK? How long would it take the team to fix the chat to make it work again?

Thank you so much.

Hi Dean,

The only images I’ve sent are of spreadsheets, and I don’t think they were sent as IMAGES per se…

Annette

Hi again, Dean,

Yes, I sent several screenshots of spreadsheets, and there was never a problem.

This was the last reply I received from Grok Bot, most likely on 24th September, 2026, probably about 3AM - 4AM:

SENT BY ME: Nope lines there now. Thank you so much, GrokBot - will come back to this when I get back from doctor. Nite xoxo

GROK BOT’S REPLY: Glad they’re showing. Hope the appointment goes well — we’ll pick this up when you’re back. Nite xoxo

And this was SEVERAL SENDS AND REPLIES AFTER I had entered this screenshot as an IMAGE, probably a couple of hours earlier:

image.png

So this could have been the ONLY IMAGE before Grok Bot stopped replying, and it’s NOT a HUGE IMAGE that would affect Grok Bot being able to reply, so I’m absolutely flummoxed.

Annette Buttress

Hey, thanks for sending the screenshot of the table, that helps.

About the image, the limit here isn’t the file size, it’s the image dimensions in pixels. Table screenshots often end up very wide, several thousand pixels across, even if they look like a thin strip. Because of that, one of the images in this chat history is over the maximum allowed size, and every new request in this chat hits that limit, so even “hello” fails. Update and Reset don’t help because this chat’s history is stored on our side.

On timing, I honestly can’t give an exact date. I’ve passed this to the team and we’ll reply here as soon as we have an update.

Waiting is also totally fine. Your bots and all history are safe, nothing is being deleted. The only downside is that this specific chat will stay stuck for now. If you want to use Grok Bot in the meantime, the fastest option is to start a new chat, you can use the same bot, just without that wide image. You don’t need to touch the old chat.

Hey @Tibetan95380

Can you check to see if it’s working now?

Hi Colin and Dean,

YAAAAAAY!! Yes, it’s working!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Now, please tell me - can I NOT do screenshots when Grok Botasks me to? I REALLY don’t want this to happen again!
