Grok Bot Finance (Plaid): bank verification codes never arrive, two institutions

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

When adding accounts to Grok Bot’s Finance connection through Plaid, Plaid asks for a security code “sent by” the bank after sign-in, but no text or email ever arrives. It happened with two different institutions (CIBC and Walmart Rewards Mastercard), so it looks like the connection flow, not the banks. Signing in to both banks directly works normally.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start adding an account in Finance (Plaid hosted link).
  2. Pick CIBC or Walmart Rewards Mastercard and sign in.
  3. Plaid shows “Verify your identity” and asks for the bank’s code.

Expected Behavior

Expected Behavior: The bank sends a code by text or email. Actual: nothing arrives, so the account can’t be linked.

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hey @TheAviv, thanks for the report and the screenshot.

That “Verify your identity” step comes from your bank through Plaid, so the code is sent by CIBC or Walmart Rewards Mastercard, not by Grok Bot. A few things usually get it unstuck:

  1. Wait about 30 minutes before trying again. Several code requests in a short window can make a bank stop sending codes for a while.
  2. Check your spam or junk folder, and open the bank’s mobile app in case it is asking you to approve the sign-in there instead of texting a code.
  3. In the bank’s own website, check that the phone number and email in your security or 2-step verification settings are current.
  4. When you retry, watch for a screen in Plaid asking where to send the code (text, email, or call), or a “resend” or “try another method” option, and pick a different method.

If the code still never arrives, could you reply with roughly what time you tried, whether Plaid offered a choice of where to send the code, and whether the bank showed any sign-in alert? That will help us track down where it is getting stuck.
