Grok Bot gets stuck on black screen after "Setting up Grok Bot's computer"

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

Grok Bot desktop on Windows repeatedly shows “Setting up Grok Bot’s computer” and then becomes a completely black window.

I reproduced this on both Grok Bot 0.24.0 and 0.27.0. I fully uninstalled the app, deleted the Roaming profile, reinstalled cleanly, cleared Cache/GPUCache/Code Cache, Session Storage, Local Storage, and the sand-forever-box Local Storage. The issue still returns.

I also tested through a mobile hotspot instead of my normal network and the result was the same.

The UI becomes black before I can access Settings → Beta → Update/Reset Agent Computer.

Could you please rebuild or reset the Agent Computer associated with my account on the backe

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Grok Bot on Windows with a clean local profile.
  2. Launch Grok Bot and sign in.
  3. The app shows “Setting up Grok Bot’s computer”.
  4. After the setup screen disappears, the window becomes completely black.
  5. Closing and reopening the app reproduces the same issue.

The issue reproduces on both Grok Bot 0.24.0 and 0.27.0, after full uninstall/reinstall and deletion of the local Grok Bot profile. It also reproduces when using a mobile hotspot instead of my normal network.

Expected Behavior

After “Setting up Grok Bot’s computer” completes, the main Grok Bot interface should load normally instead of showing a black screen.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Version Information

Grok Bot 0.24.0 — Windows

Additional Information

The issue happens during Grok Bot startup, before I can use any Bot.

Grok Bot displays “Setting up Grok Bot’s computer” and then transitions to a completely black window.

I reproduced the issue after a full clean reinstall and deletion of the Grok Bot local profile. I also reproduced it on both Grok Bot 0.24.0 and 0.27.0.

I tested using a completely different network through a mobile 5G hotspot and the issue remained exactly the same.

I also tested clearing Cache, GPUCache, Code Cache, Session Storage, Local Storage, and the Local Storage inside the sand-forever-box partition. None of these resolved the issue.

Because the black screen appears immediately after “Setting up Grok Bot’s computer”, I suspect the Agent Computer associated with my account may be stuck or unreachable on the backend.

Could you please check and, if necessary, rebuild/recover/reset the Agent Computer associated with my account?

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the detailed report and all the troubleshooting you did. You were looking in the right place. The issue is on our side, not in your setup. The hosted computer linked to your account didn’t finish starting up after it was created, so the app goes to a black screen right after Setting up Grok Bot’s computer. Reinstalling, clearing caches, or switching networks won’t change anything, it’s not your machine.

I’ll post here once it’s fixed.

Okay, I’ll wait, thank you.

Same issue here on Windows with Grok Bot 0.29.0.

Installation and authentication completed successfully. Grok Bot displayed the computer setup process, but afterward the application became completely black and remains black after a full restart.

This appears identical to the hosted Agent Computer startup issue confirmed above.

Could you please check/rebuild the Agent Computer associated with my account as well?

I can provide account information or logs privately if required.

Having the same issue on my end

Same problem here. How can this be fixed?

Believe our computer need to be rebuilt. Can someone help @deanrie

Same issue for me, assistance would be much appreciated :folded_hands:

Same issue here with windows version 0.30.0. thank you

same issue for me also

literally the same issue on my end as well! please team, fix it ASAP!

Hey, I can see a few users are hitting the same issue. Grok Bot gets to Setting up Grok Bot’s computer and then goes to a black screen. We’re tracking this, and in some cases it’s not your machine. The hosted computer linked to your account doesn’t finish starting up. Reinstalling, clearing cache, or switching networks won’t fix it.

I’ll post updates on the overall status in this thread.

Windows, Grok Bot 0.30.0. The app remains stuck on a black loading screen after a full restart. Local processes are responsive, the gateway heartbeat is updating, and HTTPS connections are active, but Settings/Recovery never loads. Please recover or rebuild the hosted Agent Computer linked to my account.

Windows, Grok Bot 0.30.0.
After desktop update: black screen.
After reinstall: app flashes and exits.
iOS on the same account works.
Phone hotspot also fails on Windows.
Huorong trust added; intercept log has no Grok Bot entries.
Event Viewer has no Grok crash.
Please check the Windows desktop session. Do not Reset the Agent Computer.

Hey, thanks everyone for the reports and details. Quick update on the black screen after “Setting up Grok Bot’s computer”.

We’re tracking this issue. In some cases it’s not your machine. The hosted computer tied to your account doesn’t finish booting after it’s created. Reinstalling, clearing cache, or switching networks won’t fix it, it’s not something in your setup.

Important note: the root cause isn’t the same for everyone. If Grok Bot works for you on iOS on the same account (so the computer is alive), please don’t do a reset. We’re handling those cases separately so we don’t lose your bots.

I can’t share an ETA yet, but I’ll post general status updates here in this thread.

If you still see a black screen after this, please reply with:

  • Grok Bot version and OS version
  • whether the account works on another device (iOS / another desktop)

This will help us figure out which scenario you’re in.

I’m having the issue.
-Grok bot version 0.30.0
-Mac OS 26.5 (25F71)
-Also gets stuck on my other desktop

Hey all,

Most folk’s boxes have recovered.

Handling these requests 1:many is next to impossible. If you’re still facing an issue, don’t hesitate to raise a new, seperate thread.
