When switching between bots in the desktop agent the message pane re-paints strange. Sometimes it shows up blank, sometimes it is just cutoff and only some of the messages are there. Scrolling the mouse wheel once fixes the issue and everything paints correctly
Steps to Reproduce
Open Grok Bot Desktop on Windows
Change Bots
See partially filled or blank message screen
Scroll the mouse wheel of move the scroll in the pane up and down and it is fixed.
Expected Behavior
When you switch bots the entire conversation should be there.
Operating System
Windows 10/11
Version Information
GrokBot: 0.66.0
Additional Information
I have a screen recording of the issue but there is too much personal information on it to share. I could send it privately though.
Hey, thanks for the detailed report. This is a known issue with how the Grok Bot desktop app redraws the chat on some Windows machines after switching bots. The conversation isn’t lost, the window just doesn’t repaint it until something like a scroll or resize forces a redraw. We’re tracking this, and I shared your case with the team.
A couple things that might help:
Open Settings → General and check that Use hardware acceleration is enabled. If you change it, click Restart to Apply. From what we’ve seen, it behaves better with hardware acceleration on than off.
If the pane is still blank, a quick scroll or resizing the window will redraw it, like you noticed.
To narrow this down, can you share two details:
Was Use hardware acceleration on or off when this happened?
Are you on Windows 10 or 11, and what version from Settings → System → About?
No need to send a screen recording. Let me know those two points, and I’ll reply here when there’s an update.
Thanks for the reply. Hardware acceleration was on when this happened. I will try turning it off to see if that helps. Here is a screenshot of my computers about window:
Thanks, this is exactly what we needed: Windows 11 Home 26H2 build 26300.9550, with hardware acceleration turned ON. I’ve passed these details to the team. Your case helps because it confirms the issue also happens with hardware acceleration enabled, not just disabled.
About “I’ll try turning off hardware acceleration”, I wouldn’t recommend it. From what we’ve seen, disabling acceleration usually makes it behave worse, not better. So it’s best to keep Use hardware acceleration ON. If the pane comes up empty again, one scroll or a window resize should be enough to redraw it, just like you noticed.
This is an issue we’re tracking. I can’t share a timeline yet, but I’ll post here when there’s an update.
Hey Karl, thanks for confirming, and it’s helpful that you see this with hardware acceleration both ON and OFF. That helps narrow down the cause.
This is an issue we’re tracking. On some Windows machines, Grok Bot desktop doesn’t redraw the chat after switching bots until something forces a redraw. The conversation itself isn’t lost.
For now, the workaround is simple: scrolling once in the panel or resizing the window should force it to redraw. I wouldn’t recommend turning hardware acceleration off. From what we’ve seen, it usually gets worse with it OFF, so it’s better to keep it ON.
I can’t give a timeline yet, but I’ll post in the thread when there’s an update.
