Grok Bot Mac: Dock unread badge + smarter mobile notifications when desktop is open

Feature request for product/service

Describe the request

Feature request: unread Dock badge on Mac (like Slack)

On Mac, Grok Bot doesn’t show a numeric unread badge when a bot replies and I haven’t read the chat. Slack and other messengers do, so I notice them. With Grok Bot I only find out if I open the app, so I regularly miss replies (including from my Chief of Staff / morning brief).

What I want

  • A Dock badge (and ideally menu-bar / app-icon badge) with the count of unread bot messages, or at least a clear “unread” indicator when any conversation has new content I haven’t opened.
  • Behavior similar to Slack: badge stays until I’ve actually viewed that chat.

Why it matters
Without a badge, Grok Bot is easy to ignore next to Slack. That breaks the point of having an async teammate on Mac.

Related: don’t spam mobile if I’m already seeing it on desktop

Mobile push should only fire if I’m not already viewing / have not already seen that message on desktop. Right now mobile can notify even when the desktop app is open and I’ve seen (or am about to see) the reply. Prefer a short delay / presence check: if the Mac app is foregrounded or the thread is already read on desktop, skip or suppress the iOS notification.

Environment: Grok Bot desktop on macOS + iOS.

Operating System (if it applies)

MacOS

Hey, thanks for the feature request.

Good news on the first part. The Dock badge in Grok Bot on Mac already exists. It shows the number of unread bot replies and clears as soon as you open that chat. On macOS, the badge only shows up if notifications are allowed for the app, so please check: System Settings > Notifications > Grok Bot, and enable both Allow notifications and Badge application icon. Also check that notifications are enabled for the right bots inside the app. Muted bots don’t count toward the badge.

If the badge still doesn’t show up after that, tell me what version you’re on and we’ll take a closer look.

On the second part (not duplicating phone push notifications when you’re already on desktop), it’s something the team is looking into, but there’s no specific timeline yet. There’s already a separate thread for this request where you can add your vote: Feature Request - Grok Bot: Disable phone notifications when using desktop
