Grok Bot (macOS 0.44.0): persistent “Authentication error” after sign-out / sign-in

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

Grok Bot desktop stays signed in in the UI, but every message fails with:

  • Authentication error
  • If you are logged in, try logging out and back in.

Re-login does not clear it. The bot (probot) never replies. Older threads from 22 Aug 2026 still show in the sidebar.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Grok Bot on macOS and send any message (e.g. hi or open www.xanda.cn).
  2. See the red banner: Authentication error / If you are logged in, try logging out and back in.
  3. Click the account at the bottom left of the sidebar → Sign out → confirm.
  4. Sign back in with the same Cursor account.
  5. Fully quit Grok Bot from the Dock (Quit), reopen, and sign in again.
  6. Send another message.

Expected Behavior

After sign-out and sign-in (and a full quit/reopen), the session should be valid and the bot should reply.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hi @Lit_Sky!

Thanks for reporting. I tweaked some knobs in the backend. Can you try reopening Grok Bot and let me know if the issue persists?

It works now. Thank you.

how do we solve this im having the same issue

Me too! I even reinstalled the app, and the same bug happened.

Im having the exact same issue on Windows 11. It happens every single time. I cant chat with the bots.

Fixed it on my end! I went to Settings > Updates > Update Grok Bot’s Computer. I did this on Grok Bot version 0.47.0).

Updating the Computer fixes it.

Grok Bot 0.47.0 on macOS, already on latest stable version.
Still getting “Authentication error — If you are logged in, try logging out and back in” on every bot/message.
Sign-out/sign-in and updating the app did not help.
Could you please check/reset the Grok Bot authentication state / Agent Computer for my account on the backend?

Hey all, quick update on this one.

@Lit_Sky @Xavier_Lee @rodschulz @Josh2, glad it is working for you now. The change that caused this was on our side, and your accounts were fine the whole time, so sorry for the sign-out and reinstall detours.

@Sark_Asadourian @Charlie_Zhou, your Grok Bot’s Computer has been updated on our side since you posted, so it should just work now. Please reopen Grok Bot and send a message. No need to sign out or reinstall.

If anyone else lands here with the same “Authentication error” banner: go to Settings, then Updates, then click “Update Grok Bot’s Computer”. That moves you onto the current version and the error goes away. Let us know if that’s not working.
