Grok Bot MacOS: Unable to see or edit bot instructions or skills on desktop

Hey @Kamran_Sheikh, thanks for laying out the use case, that context helps. Taking your questions in order (this also covers what @enough and @will.dev asked):

1. Is the removal temporary or intentional?
The simpler details pane on desktop was an intentional redesign. However, we do continue to evolve the product based on user feedback so we are noting your feedback here and considering it.

2. Will editing come back, and when?
No timeline to share yet. I’ll post here when there’s an update.

3. Is there a documented alternative?
Not a one-for-one replacement today. Right now there isn’t a per-Bot instructions field on desktop that’s always applied and that you can review. These are the closest options:

  • Hard boundaries: Use Auto-review rules under Settings > General > Auto-review. “Ask first” rules always stop matching actions for your approval, and you can review and edit them at any time. They apply to all of your Bots rather than one, and they’re stored per desktop install. See Approvals and Auto Review.
  • Procedures and role playbooks: Save them as private skills. You can open, read, and edit each one on desktop (Marketplace or Connect apps at the bottom of the sidebar, then Yours > Private skills). Skills are available to every Bot on your account, so name them by role (for example “Risk review procedure”) and reference the one you want with / in the request or routine. See Save a skill.
  • Recurring work: Each routine’s instruction is visible on desktop from the Bot’s details panel (click its name at the top of the chat), so scheduled jobs stay reviewable.

Heads up that a few help pages still describe the older Bot settings layout, including the advice to put lasting rules in the description. We’ve let the team know. Until those are updated, please use Auto-review rules for anything that needs a hard stop.

4. Are edits made through the Android Instructions field applied reliably?
Not at the moment. The text saves and syncs across your devices, but it isn’t currently being applied reliably to how the Bot behaves in chat. I wouldn’t rely on it for anything a Bot must follow.
