### Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

### Describe the Bug

Title: Bot templates: preview shows skills, but the export ships “skills”: — skills are never delivered

Steps to reproduce (verified twice with third-party templates, then with my own template as a round trip):

1. Ask any bot with an account-wide skill to create a template of itself. The template preview correctly shows the skill under Context → Skills, full body visible.
2. Publish, open the share link, Add to Grok Bot on the same account.
3. The imported bot’s manifest literally contains “skills”: . Instructions, memories, routines, and plugin references all arrive (routines arrive paused; auto-review cards appear normally and were approved). The skill never arrives: not in the manifest, not under Settings → Plugins → Yours, not as a SKILL.md on the computer, not in the / menu.

Also reproduced with two third-party templates (different authors). The share web page [loops by Matt](https://x.ai/bot/Ub3T7usX-c6yRQibQq83P) , [Best Video Editor by X](https://x.ai/bot/Do4CujP_kqnnc1KYnpOfI) ) only serves the card, so there is no copy path for the skill text outside the app preview either.

Expected: skills shown in the template preview are included in the import, or the preview clearly marks them as not included.
Version: 0.30.0, Windows. Happy to provide the template id.

Hey @Ber77, Thanks for the detailed report - the round-trip repro made this easy to pin down.

You’re right: the preview reads the skills correctly, but they aren’t being applied to the imported bot. That’s not intended behavior, and it’s nothing on your end. We’ve let the team know and this is an issue we’re tracking.

In the meantime, since the full skill body shows in the template preview, you can copy it and ask the new bot to recreate it, e.g. "Create a skill called with this content: ". That gets the skill onto the imported bot until imports handle this end to end.

Thanks Mohit, good to hear it is tracked and that it is not on my side.

One problem with the workaround: on Windows desktop I cannot copy the skill body out of the template preview. The Content field is not selectable. Ctrl+A selects the chat page behind the modal instead, a click-and-drag across the text selects nothing, and the clipboard stays unchanged. Verified on 0.30.0 against three different templates.

What worked instead was reading the preview off the screen with Claude’s computer-use tools, scrolling the Content box one notch at a time with overlap, transcribing it, and then havingmy Chief Grok Bot recreate the skill from that text. That recovered six skills from three templates. It works, but it is transcription by eye, so I cannot guarantee byte fidelity, and it is not something most users will do.

If the import fix takes a while, making the Content field selectable, or adding a copy button to it, would already make your workaround usable.

The problem is still there. Bots cannot be imported properly. Copy/paste of skills are also not possible.

The problem still exists. There no copy and the skills don’t import over.

@mohitjain Is this at all related to the inability to see instructions or skills for a bot on desktop? If we are unable to import a bot with skills, and then we have to just paste the skill in chat with no ability to see a bots instruction or used files, then there’s no way we can trust a bot to actually carry out meaningful work. Without this it seems like all functionality is lost and there isn’t really a difference between bots and a normal llm chat thread.

Yeah having the same problem. Took me a while to realize bots were being imported without skills and even without description, because the desktop app doesn’t show any of those properties. But its still happening right now

Thanks all for confirming. This is still an issue we’re tracking: skills shown in a template’s preview don’t arrive on the imported bot. Sorry the copy-paste workaround I suggested earlier doesn’t work, since the preview text can’t be selected.

A workaround that should get you there: take screenshots of each skill in the template preview (scrolling through the longer ones), send them to the new bot, and ask it to create a skill with exactly that content. Give the result a quick read afterward since it’s working from images.

@Olan @Joao_Rios it’s related, but a separate issue. Instructions and descriptions not showing on desktop comes from the redesigned details pane, covered in [Grok Bot MacOS: Unable to see or edit bot instructions or skills on desktop](https://forum.cursor.com/t/grok-bot-macos-unable-to-see-or-edit-bot-instructions-or-skills-on-desktop/173803). Skills you already have are still on desktop: press Cmd+Shift+M (Ctrl+Shift+M on Windows) and look under Private skills.

Thanks, Mohit. I appreciate the reply, but I have to be honest: this is getting frustrating.

I reported this on August 29. For a short time it worked: when I imported the dr eggbot template on September 3, its skills arrived with it. Since then it is broken again. Every template I imported from September 17 to October 4 arrived without a single skill. A full check of my account this week found 30 template skills missing across 9 bots. I re-tested today, October 10, with Copy Humanizer: the preview shows 7 skills, the imported bot got none. The routine did arrive.

So this is not one bug waiting for a fix. It works in one build and breaks again in the next, and nothing tells the user. The import looks successful, the bot starts, and you only notice weeks later that half of it is missing. Other users confirmed it again on October 4, 8 and 9, and it is still open.

Skills are a core part of a template. In most templates the skills are where the actual method lives; without them a template is worth about half. Right now I cannot rely on any import.

The workaround works, but it is expensive. I transcribed the 7 Copy Humanizer skills from screenshots and had every word proofread against the images. I have 23 more to go. On Windows the preview text still cannot be selected, so screenshots are the only way.

What would help:

1. A fix, with a regression test, so skills do not silently stop arriving after the next update.
2. Until then, a clear warning on import that skills will not be included, or a list of what arrived and what did not.
3. Selectable preview text or a copy button, so the workaround takes minutes instead of hours.
4. A short status update or rough timeline in this thread.

Windows 11, Grok Bot desktop app vewrsion 0.68.1

Sorry about this, and thanks for the timeline (skills came across on Sep 3, none since Sep 17). That’s really useful.

This is still an issue we’re tracking, and we’ve let the team know about your asks: a regression check, a note at import showing what came across, and a copy button in the preview. No timeline yet, but I’ll post here when there’s an update.

Still an issue as of October 19th. Really suprised by how long this is an issue. Seems like a core thing, I would expect it to be a high priority.

I’ve posted under the other topic but since that sits under Help and not bug reports I’am linking it here as well.

So there is an actual problem associated with this.
