Hardcoded models on automations

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Model picker on Cursor Automations displays only 4 models instead of all available models.
By default it’s Grok 4.6 high-fast (but cannot be edited). Then it shows only 4 options (screenshot available).
If other model is selected, Grok 4.6 high-fast option completely disappears.

Model picker seems very different from regular model picker and must be fixed. Models across Cloud, IDE, CLI are a mess and must be unified. Otherwise it’s better to stop using this product for me.

Steps to Reproduce

Cursor IDE → Teams plan → Automations → New Automation → Agent Instructions → Select model.

Expected Behavior

Models as in regular model picker.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

Hey, thanks for the detailed report with the screenshot and version.

You’re right. The model list in Automations is currently separate from the regular model picker, and it uses its own curated set. Grok 4.6 hasn’t been added there yet, so it shows up as a default you can’t re-select, and after you pick another model it disappears from the list. That’s an expected result of the current setup, not something wrong with your config.

This is a known issue we’re tracking, and we plan to align the Automations model list with what you see in the rest of Cursor. I can’t share an exact timeline yet.

For now, the workaround is this. The model shown on an automation is the one it actually runs with. If you want to keep Grok 4.6 high fast on an automation where it’s already the default, just don’t change the model. If you switch it, you’ll need to pick from the four options currently available.

I’ll reply here once Grok 4.6 shows up in the Automations picker.
