History chat: collapsible tags / UI elements render as plain text (e.g. /handoff, file pills)

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

In past conversations (chat history), certain UI elements that were originally collapsible / interactive tags now render as plain text.
Examples from my sessions:

The special /handoff tag appears only as plain text instead of the styled pill/tag.
File attachment indicators and related collapse controls lose their interactive/collapsible UI and become ordinary text.
Other structured elements (Skill, File, HTML Element, etc.) that used to be foldable in the live chat also degrade to plain text when reopening the conversation from history.

This makes long agent sessions harder to navigate and review.

Steps to Reproduce

Start a new Agent / Composer conversation.
Use features that produce special UI elements (e.g. /handoff, file attachments, HTML Element with collapsible sections).
Let the conversation finish or continue for a while.
Close the chat or switch to another conversation.
Re-open the same conversation from History.
Observe that the previously collapsible / styled tags now appear as plain text.

Expected Behavior

History view should preserve the same interactive / collapsible UI elements that were shown in the live conversation (styled tags, foldable sections, file pills, etc.).

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @sinar_pandora, thanks for the detailed report, and the screenshots were very helpful.

I was able to trace this. In 3.21 the way sent messages are drawn in the chat transcript changed, and messages that contain a /command chip, a browser element selection, or certain other attachment types are currently being shown as their underlying plain text when a conversation is reopened. Messages with only text and @file mentions still render correctly. I’ve flagged this to the team.

Hey @sinar_pandora,

Quick update on this. A fix for this has landed and will be included in an upcoming version of Cursor (3.22/3.23).

Good job, Thank you!
