How much Composer 1 usage is included beyond plan?

Hi Cursor team — I noticed a tooltip in the usage dialog box saying you provide free usage through model providers beyond what I’ve purchased.

Since Composer 1 is built in-house, can you clarify what the actual usage limits are beyond my plan? How much extra usage is available, and how is it determined?

Hey, good question.

Bonus usage (“free usage on us”) is extra capacity we try to provide on top of your plan’s guaranteed limit ($20 for Pro). It applies to all models, including Composer 1, even though the tooltip wording says “model providers.”

We are currently in a Team Plan, and I have the following questions regarding this “Free Usage“.
Note: The on-deman usage billing is not enabled for our organization, so we are bound by the monthly provided $20 limit.

Question:

  1. Is this usage pooled, i.e If I use beyond the $20, then am I consuming my team mates monthly limit?
  2. If its not pooled, then what is the hard limit on the “Free Usage“ that is provided to us?
  3. Is the hard limit same for all of users, or does it differ from account to account

Hey @AJ_JSMD, good questions. Let me go through each one:

  1. Is bonus usage pooled?
    No. On the Teams plan, usage is per user. Each member gets their own (20) USD per month. It doesn’t transfer between team members. Pooled usage, shared across the team, is only available on the Enterprise plan.

  2. What’s the hard limit on “bonus” usage?
    The exact bonus amount isn’t fixed or published, and it can vary. Since your org has on-demand disabled, once a user uses up their included usage plus any bonus, they’ll be blocked until the next billing cycle. You can track each member’s usage in the admin dashboard.

  3. Is the limit the same for everyone?
    Each team member gets the same (20) USD per month included usage. The bonus amount may vary, but the baseline allocation is the same for all users.

If your team has uneven usage, like a few heavy users and others barely using it, you might want to enable on-demand usage with a spend limit, or look into the Enterprise plan for pooled usage. For Enterprise details, email [email protected].
