Usually it would use previous commits as guidance, are any of your previous commits in Portugese?
I have the same problem. In the same project, Cursor uses different languages on Windows and Mac. I’m not sure what it depends on.
@Tim_Rachwood could you please share more info so we can check what is happening?
Which languages do you use, and which OS does use the correct language and which does not.
Are they using the same project?
@condor The system, app, and repository comments are all in English.
In agent mode I use Russian.
It’s the same project, yet on macOS the comments are generated in English, while on Windows they come out in Russian.
However, I need all text committed to the repository to be in English.
I tried to find a setting to configure this, but it looks like it doesn’t exist.
Is Windows set to Russian language or Mac too?
It is unusual so we may need additional information how to reproduce the issue.
Russian is enabled only as a keyboard layout, both systems are set to English.
I have same problem. System lang “english” but github commits are translated to polish
Hey, I think it depends on the language you use when interacting with the model and the language of your previous commits.
I have same problem, the messages I generate are in Chinese by default, and this doesn’t work even after reinstalling the cursor. I suspect that a language configuration was saved locally when the message was first generated, and subsequent regenerations use this language configuration and cannot be changed.
This is stupid, just tell us what configuration the language of the git messages cursor generate is based on and we can troubleshoot. I have had this problem for at least 3 months
It’s been quite a while since this issue was raised, and being able to specify the language for generated commit messages is a really practical feature. I hope the team can prioritize adding this option soon.
My commit message seems to have learned from my old cursor rule which no longer exists.
It uses wrong Japanese, so I want to fix it but have no option for that.
try this
-
Write the following content inside the AGENTS.md file.
# Project Instructions ## Generate Commit Message - Use {{ your language }}
- setting for my project
@deanrie any update on when this will be picked up, if ever?
Currently my generated commit messages are multiple paragraphs for a one line change, which is ridiculous
Is there no solution to this problem yet? I’m going crazy
I hope the cursor development team can quickly improve the ability to modify and set the language for generating commit messages, as it is urgently needed
Any updates?
Please implement this feature. Just add “rules for ai for commit message” or something like this to cursor settings
I have same problem
