I agree, I honestly accept their answer here which is why I marked it as solution.
Unfortunately had to upgrade today off of the older version, I have multiple monitors and was stuck trying to figure out how to separate them out with the newest version and couldnāt. Glad to see Iām not the only one, but am hopeful for this to be added back in soon.
It is unbelievable that, after decades of UI progress in software and websites, and decades of companies making tiny UI changes that people then complain bitterly about, Cursor folks decide to make such a massive backwards step - removing perfectly working functionality that some people (me included) have come to rely on.
It was obvious that this would annoy a lot of people. I can only wonder what the process was to decide to hobble the app in such a way.
Then the responses of āmost people like itā and āweāre rethinking thingsā and āit caused some local storage issuesā are all over the place.
I will definitely not be renewing my plan, will find a competitor and give them my money instead.
Stop doing stupid things!
Still no news on this? Is something planned at all?
Iām still on 1.7 because of thatā¦
Thanks, I also always rely on this function. I am wondering why they delete or hide the function. I will still be in 1.7 until they recover that.
Same here.
However, since today, for the 1.7 version, notifications regarding cursor being outdated and recommendations for update have been popping up in the new windows and between chats, even if update has been set to ānoneā in the user settings json file.
I wonder when exactly would this problem get the attention from the team and the function get recoveredā¦
I got the update popup today, installed the latest version.
Had to revert to 1.7 for now and endure the update popups for now. Unusable without a separate window for Agent.
Still extremely frustrated with the single window. @condor Any new updates on if its actually planned to bring back multiple windows?
I do not have a fixed date for multiple windows but team is looking into that. I think the limitation is memory usage and performance of multiple windows.
Iām speechless. Iām using version 1.7 every day, and I have to endure your endless update pop-ups. Iāll put my effort into adapting to your alternatives instead of adapting to your reverse updates!
No memory or performance limitations on m4 max w 64gb - just ship it ![]()

Does this stop you from using Cursor
No - Cursor works, but with this issue
Yes, I also met this BUG.
Hello, love to has this back
Almost 4 month since the feature is gone.. Bring it back, please.
Antigravity nailed this feature and even tops it with artifacts and other cool stuff.
You can type anything in the normal layout and then open the chat in a separate window; this may temporarily fix the bug.
