There are several built-in agents (for example : https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/17718-github-copilot)in Intellij Idea, and some can write code, but require keys. Since I have purchased a license from cursor, how can I use the api keys? Or maybe cursor was able to make its own plugin for Intellij idea?
Hey, thanks for the feature request. Cursor doesn’t provide API keys that work with other editors like IntelliJ, the subscription is specifically for using Cursor’s AI features inside the Cursor editor.
We don’t currently have a plugin for IntelliJ IDEA, so to get the benefits of your subscription you’d need to use Cursor as your main editor. The AI models and features are tightly integrated into Cursor and aren’t available as standalone API access.
If you want to stay with IntelliJ, you’d need a separate GitHub Copilot subscription or another AI coding assistant that has an IntelliJ plugin.
If you’re interested in Cursor’s AI features, they’re only available within Cursor. You can bring your own API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, or other providers via Settings > Models.
