I am a Pro user. Why is the model list I can choose from so limited?Last week I still had the full list.
Since I clicked on the dialog box that cursor popped up saying “Recommended to use composer 2”, all the models have disappeared. Is this a bug?
Please give me back all the model lists I had before.
Hey, this is most likely due to regional restrictions from the model providers.
Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, and Google Gemini block API access from some regions, so those models won’t show up in your Cursor model list. This is a provider limitation, not something Cursor controls.
Seeing Composer 2, Grok, and Kimi but not Claude, GPT, or Gemini is a common pattern in affected regions. Clicking the Recommended to use Composer 2 message didn’t cause it, it was probably just a timing coincidence.
What you can do:
- Use Auto mode. It picks the best available model for your region.
- Use the models you do have. Composer 2, Grok 4.20, and Kimi K2.5 all work well.
- Add your own API key. Go to Cursor Settings > Models > API Keys and add a provider key, but the provider may still block access based on your location.
More details here: Regions and model availability | Cursor Docs
If you had full access before, the provider rules may have changed, or your network routing may have changed.
Will these model lists still show in the correct region?
Yes, if you access Cursor from a region where those providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) allow API access, the full model list will show up automatically. No extra setup needed.
The model list updates based on your current location or network, so if you travel or connect from a supported region, you should see all models.
Here are the supported regions for each provider:

- OpenAI (GPT) https://help.openai.com/articles/5347006-openai-api-supported-countries-and-territories
- Google (Gemini) https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/available-regions
