That somehow turned into Quackie - a VS Code extension that rewrites Git commits as different developer personalities. It started as a joke and somehow ended with 40 personas, from Repository Guardian to Sleep-Deprived Senior.
A while ago I got tired of writing boring Git commit messages.
Then a code review at work somehow turned into a discussion that stopped being about code and became about architecture, ownership and “why are we even doing this?”
At some point we joked that instead of another explanation the terminal should simply print:
mooooo.
That stupid joke somehow evolved into Quackie.
It’s a VS Code / Cursor extension that rewrites Git commit messages as different developer personalities.
Some examples:
Repository Guardian
→ “verify transaction lifecycle”
Moo
→ “finally feed the latest prompts”
Rubber Duck
→ “apparently the docs were right”
Sleep-Deprived Senior
→ “let’s hope this one sticks”
There are currently around 40 bundled personalities, including developer archetypes, mythical characters and a few completely ridiculous ones.
It works directly from the Source Control view, supports auto-rewrite, command palette and keyboard shortcuts.
I’d genuinely love feedback from other developers.
Especially:
- Which personas are actually fun to use?
- Which ones feel forced?
- Would you keep something like this installed?
