Image markup is saved offset from where it was drawn

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Trying to markup an image in chat.
I tried to draw a circle to highlight an area of the image/page-referenced.
When I save the markup and reopen it the markup is not where I drew it.

Steps to Reproduce

Paste an image into the chat area. Click on the image to view it. Draw a circle to highlight something. Save that. Click on the image again and the markup isn’t in the area I intended.

I assume the agent can use that markup as a point of reference on where I want something to be placed on the page (i.e. a checkbox).

In the uploaded screenshot, I drew the circle around the Product ID. The 00331-…-AA940 text.

Expected Behavior

If the markup isn’t where I intended it loses context to what I am trying to say/request.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @Les_Lewis thanks for the clear report and screenshot! You’re not doing anything wrong here - in the IDE chat’s image viewer, the drawing layer is sized to the whole viewer area rather than the image, so for a wide screenshot the saved mark gets pulled toward the middle. That’s why your circle landed above the Product ID. It looks right while you draw and only shifts after save. We’ve let the team know.

Two workarounds:

  1. Attach and mark up the image in the Agents Window instead - that one keeps the mark where you put it.
  2. Or annotate before pasting (Windows Snipping Tool: Win+Shift+S, then the pen).

And yes - the annotated image is still sent to the model, so a circle around the Product ID will be used as the reference you intend. I’ll follow up here when there’s an update.
