Hey everyone, this is an old request, and I want to clarify the current status.
Native OpenRouter integration in API Keys isn’t on the roadmap right now. What you’re seeing, built-in Pro models disappearing when override is enabled, is by design. When you turn on Override OpenAI Base URL, Cursor routes all OpenAI-compatible requests through that URL, so the built-in models won’t work in the same session. You can’t use built-in Cursor Pro and OpenRouter at the same time through a single OpenAI override.
What’s available today:
- BYOK directly for OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google
- OpenRouter via Override OpenAI Base URL plus your OpenRouter key, but without parallel access to built-in Cursor models
- Any OpenAI-compatible gateway like LiteLLM in front of OpenRouter if you need more flexible model routing
