iOS app: tapping Open on a PDF/file attachment does nothing

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor for iOS

Describe the Bug

When the agent shares a file in chat, long-pressing the attachment shows a menu with Open / Copy / Share… — but tapping “Open” does nothing. No preview, no error. The file itself is fine: Share → Save to Files works, and the PDF opens normally from the Files app. Only the in-app open is broken.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. In the Cursor iOS app, have the agent attach a PDF to chat (e.g. a generated report at /workspace/Admin_playbook_calendar_share.pdf).
  2. Long-press the attachment in the message.
  3. Tap “Open”.
  4. Nothing happens.

Expected Behavior

Tapping Open should show an in-app preview of the file, or at least hand off to the iOS system viewer.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @mxschmitt! Thanks for the clear report and screenshot — this isn’t anything on your end. On iOS, files the agent writes as text (markdown, code, plans) open in place, but a PDF it generates with a command can’t be previewed in-app yet, so Open just does nothing. We’ve let the team know and it’s an issue we’re tracking.

Since Share → Save to Files already works for you, that’s the way to open it for now. If you’d rather keep it in the chat, ask the agent to embed the pages as inline images - those render right in the conversation and you can tap to zoom.

I’ll post here when there’s an update.
