Does putting the usage statistics for auto and composer together mean that auto is the composer model? What exactly is the auto model?
Hey, good question. Auto and Composer aren’t the same thing, but they’re grouped together in the usage panel.
Composer (Composer 1, Composer 1.5) is Cursor’s own model, like Claude or Gemini are models from their providers.
Auto is a model selection mode that automatically picks the best model for each task based on what you’re doing and current load. When you use Auto, your request might be routed to Composer, Claude, Gemini, or another available model, depending on what fits best.
They show up together in the billing panel because both are part of the “generous Auto and Composer usage” included in your Pro plan, and they’re separate from the 20 USD API usage for other models.
