I want some free models to do some small things in cursor.
It appears to be for me. I assume it still requires some level of subscription. I am on Pro but I also have free Auto still (grandfathered). Just do a test and check your usage cost.
GPT-5-mini is actually pretty useful. I have written large amounts of code with it. It works best when its just reading/editing 1-2 files and the files themselves are not very long. Otherwise it does a pretty good job, and for free. I am not sure why this is not more well known, since they removed free unlimited Auto, people would have been much happier if they knew they had unlimited gpt-5-mini still. Maybe its supposed to be a S E C R E T.
