# Is it possible to download/copy a canvas in md format?

It would be very helpful to know because now I just keep asking cursor to rewrite the canvas in md, just so I can copy it.

Hey @Emanuela_Romano! There’s no built-in “export/copy as Markdown” for canvases yet.

Quickest fix: instead of asking for a rewrite in chat, ask the agent to save it to a file, e.g. “Save the contents of this canvas as a Markdown file at `notes/canvas.md`”. You get a real `.md` to copy or keep. To make it automatic, add a User Rule (Customize → Rules): “Whenever you create a canvas, also save a Markdown version next to it.” ([Rules](https://cursor.com/docs/context/rules))
