I’m on Cursor Pro (annual) and I’ve already hit 100% of my included usage for this cycle.
I understand on-demand usage is pay-as-you-go (billed later to the card), and that I can set a monthly spend limit (I set Fixed $13).
My question is:
Is there any true prepaid option in Cursor?
Something like: I pay $10–$20 upfront for extra usage credits, I spend only that amount, and when it runs out it stops — without a later invoice/overage charge.
Or is the only supported way right now:
wait for the monthly usage reset, or
enable on-demand + set a spend limit (postpaid, capped)?
I’m asking because I prefer prepaid spending control (similar to buying a mobile data top-up), rather than postpaid overages.
Hey, thanks for the request. Both of your options are correct, Cursor doesn’t currently have true prepaid options for on-demand usage like buying credits upfront. On-demand only works as postpaid.
But you already have basically the control you want via the spend limit. It’s enforced server-side as a hard cap. With Fixed $13, new requests get blocked as soon as you hit the limit, and you won’t be charged more than $13 of on-demand usage for that cycle. The only difference vs prepaid is payment timing. Usage is billed after the fact during the month or at the end of the cycle, not taken upfront. The final spending cap is the same.
So in practice, Fixed $13 gives you the same result as a $13 prepaid top-up.
If you want actual prepay, there’s an open feature request, add a +1 there since it helps with prioritization: Ability to prepay for on-demand usage
