Legacy Individual Plan - Max Mode Required

Made a new post and it got deleted in seconds.

Legacy‑plan users are only allowed to vent in this thread and may not create new posts, as this thread is already their designated outlet for complaints, and no suggestions will be adopted here.

For some reason, Opus 4.6 has started showing noticeably weaker performance. It might have been dumbed down or quantized. Either way, I’m increasingly less motivated to keep my old‑plan subscription. It’s really frustrating.

So I have a question; as a legacy user. On the newer non-legacy format. How much usage are people getting?
Be it on Composer, or a Max Model?

All the currently available models are locked in MAX mode, and I will become the number one hater of cursor

The legacy plan will be phased out gradually.

Extremely disappointing

For Cursor, legacy plan users are of very low value and not worth maintaining.

It’s a mystery to me why Cursor doesn’t at least make the new models—which are cheaper than, say, the Opus-4.6—available to legacy users. They seem to be completely clueless and can’t even do basic math. But on the other hand, they do seem to have achieved what they wanted, at least for the most part. Many have canceled their Cursor subscriptions entirely, while others have switched to the new billing system. The latter, however, are now completely dissatisfied and will also be canceling their subscriptions entirely. I can only shake my head at this.
They don’t handle existing customers very well.

any movement on this?

Cursor kept all these ancient models around just to feed them to legacy users?

Request ID: 5f4d99b5-00b4-46c8-8cbb-4955cbc7191b
Regardless of the model I specify, the subagent always displays “composer-2.5-fast,” and the dashboard also initially shows “composer-2.5-fast” before updating to the actual model name. Therefore, I have reason to believe that the legacy plan, regardless of the model used, will always be using “composer-2.5-fast.”

Why are all my requests stuck in pending status and not being processed? @Colin

It’s back to normal.

Just out of interest, how many of you have stayed on the legacy pricing?

Living on limited models. I use cursor for personal projects, so it works out for me. I have max plan from CC for client’s task.

Being hater requires max mode too

Annual Legacy subscribers should see how Cursor handled my refund request.

Cursor has refused to refund the unused part of my prepaid annual Legacy subscription, even after escalation to its legal contact. I consider this deeply unfair. Here is the sequence and what support actually said, so other customers can judge for themselves.

  • April 6, 2026: I paid USD 192 to renew my Legacy 500-request Pro plan. My receipt covers April 6, 2026 to April 6, 2027.
  • Around July: I became aware of the model-access restrictions discussed in this thread. I do not remember the exact day.
  • September 7: I requested a prorated cash refund for the unused annual term. I explicitly excluded the months already used and offered to end Pro access when the refund is issued.
  • Current position: My next renewal is cancelled, and Pro access remains available through the existing term. No refund has been granted. I have not accepted immediate termination without a refund.

My initial exchanges were with Sam, identified in the emails as Cursor’s AI Support Assistant. Both replies refused the prorated refund. When I asked for human review, the second refusal included:

I’m not able to approve a prorated refund for the unused remainder of your annual plan, and a teammate would reach the same decision.

An AI assistant telling a customer in advance that a teammate would reach the same decision is a dismissive way to handle an escalation request.

I then sent a formal dispute notice to Cursor’s legal contact. Sam said the case had been passed to a teammate. A subsequent reply signed Sophia, Cursor Billing Support, still refused the refund, citing the standard refund window and meaningful usage since renewal. It stated:

Model availability can change over a subscription term, including which models are included vs. Max Mode/usage-based. That doesn’t create a mid-term prorated refund for unused months on an annual plan.

The same reply offered:

If you’d rather end Pro access immediately instead of keeping it through April 2027, reply here and I can cancel it right away, still with no cash refund for the remaining months.

Offering to end the service immediately while keeping the payment for the remaining months is unacceptable to me. Cancelling next year’s renewal does nothing to resolve the disputed money already collected.

“Meaningful usage” during the elapsed months does not answer a request explicitly limited to the remaining months. I already accepted paying for the time I used. Repeating the standard refund window leaves the substance of this complaint unanswered.

Cursor’s July 7 explanation in this thread describes enforcement of a March policy after a bug was fixed. That makes disclosure before my April renewal particularly relevant. Calling it a bug fix does not settle what an annual customer was told when payment was accepted.

Please have someone with billing-policy authority answer these questions publicly:

  1. What Legacy plan description and terms applied when I renewed in April?
  2. Where and when were the applicable model restrictions and additional Max Mode charges clearly disclosed before that payment?
  3. What notice was provided to my account? Account-specific evidence can be supplied privately.
  4. Why is there no reasonable prorated cash exit in this case, when I am expressly accepting the cost of the elapsed months?

Cursor accepted a full year’s payment upfront. It should take responsibility for explaining the terms under which that money was collected and provide a fair resolution to this dispute. A refusal repeated through several support exchanges does not make these questions disappear.

These excerpts come from my actual correspondence, and the payment details above come from my receipt. The complete records are available for private review. Existing and prospective annual customers deserve to see this experience before deciding whether to pay Cursor for a full year in advance.

I also noticed this situation, so the cursor has deceived everyone, and the current handling is very unethical.

Between the lack of allowing grok bot on the legacy plan and the max mode nonsense … my favourite tool is quickly becoming my least favourite.. Considering I can get most of this tool with vscode.. I dont see the point anymore…

Would have thought you folks would have learned after you implemented the shady pricing change that led to the “legacy pricing” in the first place. Loyalty is non existent I realize however you specifically said the max plan thing would not be a issue and then “fixed it” for everyone… right.

Something smells rotten.. and its Cursors predatory pricing changes to its longest standing users.

Il never forget when you changed the limit from unlimited requests to 500 requests without any prior notice and then tried to just force everyone into the change. This is why I refuse to pay annual for your service, I knew the day was coming where I would see some change come from your “marketing” folks that would nerf the plan for the average user. I guess you don’t care about average users though as you have made abundantly clear.

For anyone reading this, I implore you to explore other options as this company has a long standing track record of bait and switch and poor customer service when they get caught.
