“My Grok Bot assistant (ToddBot) can take screenshots of its desktop but can’t click, type, or browse. The desktop-control tool is missing from its session. This has been happening since about 9/22/2026. I’ve already updated the computer and fully restarted the app, and it’s still missing. Can you restore browser control for this bot?”

Where does the bug appear?
Something else: Grok Bot desktop app (Cursor’s assistant app), agent computer / box desktop
Describe the Bug
My Grok Bot assistant “ToddBot” has lost desktop/browser control. It can still take read-only screenshots of its own box desktop and run shell commands, but the tool that lets it click, type, and scroll in its browser is no longer available in its session. Browser logins on the box are intact; the agent just cannot operate the browser. My other daily workflows (DAT, SONAR, Aljex, Outlook pulls) depend on this.
Steps to Reproduce
- Open the ToddBot chat in Grok Bot.
- Ask it to open a site in its browser and click something.
- It reports it has no desktop-control tool; only screenshot works.
Already tried
- Settings > Update Grok Bot’s Computer (completed 9/29/2026 ~8:25 AM ET). Files and logins survived; still no browser control.
- Fully quit and reopened the Grok Bot app (9/29/2026 ~8:30 AM ET). Still missing.
Expected Behavior
The agent can drive its box desktop/browser (click, type, scroll) as it could before about 9/22/2026.
Screenshots
(none; the issue is a missing capability, not a visual error)
Operating System
[your OS]; agent box is Linux
Version Information
Grok Bot app version: 0.61.0
Model
Not model-specific
Additional Information
Started around 9/22/2026. Affects one agent (ToddBot); not yet confirmed whether other agents on the same account are affected.
Does this stop you from using Cursor?
Sometimes - core browser workflows are blocked, everything else works
Hey @Todd_Cunningham, thanks for the report and for already trying the update and restart.
A bit of background on how this works: Grok Bot’s own screenshot tool is view-only on purpose. When it needs to click, type or browse, it hands that step to a background computer-use helper that drives its desktop. That helper is still available to ToddBot (it’s working normally on your account), but ToddBot has stopped using it and is telling you the tool is gone. That’s also why updating the computer and restarting the app didn’t change anything.
Could you try this and tell me what happens?
- Open the ToddBot chat in Grok Bot.
- Send exactly: “Launch a computer-use helper (Task tool, computerUse) to open https://www.google.com in your browser and click the search box. Don’t reply until it finishes.”
- Wait for it to finish without sending another message.
If it works, you can ask ToddBot to always hand browser work to its computer-use helper. If it has saved a note or instruction saying it has no browser control, ask it to remove that note.
If it still says it can’t, please reply with the time you tried (with your time zone) and ToddBot’s exact reply, and I’ll dig in from there.
Confirming the suggested fix works. I had the same issue, where the bot could take screenshots but not click or type. I sent it 'Launch a computer-use helper (Task tool, computerUse) to open https://www.google.com in your browser and click the search box. ’ It opened Google and clicked the search box. The tool was never missing; the bot had wrongly concluded it didn’t have the helper.
