Make it easy and obvious how to discard a plan

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

I am trying out the plan mode and it looks very promising. I’ll probably give more feedback later but, for now, something strucks me: There is no way to delete / discard a plan.

I use the plan mode, ask the agent to create a plan for feature X. The agent created a nice plan but - for any reason - I want to delete / discard that plan. I cannot find how to do that now.

Proposed solution: I would place a trash icon near the Build button to simply discard the plan.

It could be that the mere fact of closing the tab with the plan would do that (i.e. discard the plan) but it’s not obvious nor is it natural. Closing tabs usually don’t discard anything.

Please make it easy and obvious to discard a plan.
Thanks a bunch

+1 to keep this open.

Also, for now the workaround I use is to open the plan in the editor, then right-click the tab and click “Reveal in File Explorer.” This opens the folder where the plan files are stored, and you can delete the plan there.

How do we delete plan files? @deanrie I want to come in and echo the need for this. I am right clicking, trying to do it, and I refuse to believe I have to open up Finder to do this.

Hey, there’s no built-in button to delete plans yet. This is a known UX gap.

Current workaround (as @Leland_Hepworth mentioned above):

  1. Right-click the plan tab
  2. Select “Reveal in File Explorer” (or “Reveal in Finder” on Mac)
  3. Delete the plan manually from the .cursor/plans/ folder

I get that this is frustrating. There should be a simple button for this. I’ll pass your request to the team again. The more votes it gets, the higher the priority.
