Make “Usage Summary” setting work in the Agents Window

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

Cursor has a setting under chat preferences:
Usage Summary — “When to show the usage summary at the bottom of the chat pane” (options like Always, etc.)
This setting currently only applies in the classic IDE agent/chat pane. It does not take effect in the new Agents Window.
Please make the Usage Summary setting apply consistently in the Agents Window as well, so the usage summary appears (or is hidden) at the bottom of agent chats according to the user’s preference.

Operating System (if it applies)

MacOS

Hi @Tr_n_Minh_Quang, thanks for writing this up.

The Usage Summary setting actually does apply in the Agents Window, but a bug on our side is hiding it. Whenever the chat status bar is turned on (the row under the prompt box showing your environment, branch, and context %), the usage summary gets suppressed, so switching between Always and Never has no visible effect. This is a known issue on our list.

There’s a workaround in the meantime. Go to the View menu and toggle Status Bar off. Once that environment and context row disappears, the usage summary comes back and respects your Always setting.

One detail that trips people up: turning off the individual items inside the status bar (Branch, Context, Environment) won’t bring it back. The whole status bar has to be off, which does mean giving up the context % readout for now.

If you’d rather keep the status bar visible, your full usage is always available in Settings under Plan and Usage, and on your dashboard at cursor.com/dashboard.

I’ll update this thread with any updates!

Thank you for the response. Looking forward for the fix. I need to see both status and usage at the same time. The status bar is more important for me in agents window as it is design for work in multiple workspace and worktrees.
Suggestion: why don’t your team consider to show usage anywhere else, for example at the bottom-left where the profile information lives

Hi @Tr_n_Minh_Quang, In addition to the web URL for the Cursor dashboard I posted, you can also check on your usage in Cursor Settings under Plan & Usage. This may be faster than going to the Web URL.

Thanks, This way is currently my workflow to check the usage
