Markdown preview: ship VS Code 1.132+ code-block copy button (editor parity)

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

Markdown preview: VS Code 1.132+ code-block copy button (editor parity)

Summary

Please bring VS Code 1.132+ Markdown preview parity into Cursor: copy button on fenced code blocks in the built-in preview (Markdown: Open Preview / Cmd+Shift+V), without requiring extensions.

Problem

When I preview Markdown in Cursor, code blocks render correctly but there is no copy control on hover. The same file in standalone VS Code shows the copy icon on code blocks in preview.

This makes docs-heavy workflows (READMEs, session notes, Docker commands) slower in Cursor and confusing because behavior differs from VS Code on identical content.

Environment

Product Cursor IDE (stable)
Cursor version 3.20.21
Embedded VS Code 1.128.0 (About Cursor)
OS macOS (Darwin arm64)
Comparison VS Code 1.138.0 on the same .md file — copy button works

Expected behavior

In Markdown: Open Preview, hovering a fenced code block shows a copy button; click copies the block text (same as VS Code 1.132, PR #323609).

Actual behavior

Preview highlights code blocks, but no copy button appears on hover.

Why this looks like an upstream rebase gap (not user config)

  • VS Code added preview code-block copy in 1.132 (Aug 2026).
  • Cursor 3.20.21 bundles VS Code 1.128.0 (Jul 2026), which predates that change.
  • I am not asking for a new Cursor-only feature — I am asking for editor parity with a shipped VS Code capability.

Request

  1. Rebase the embedded editor / markdown-language-features to VS Code ≥ 1.132 so built-in Markdown preview includes code-block copy.
  2. Call it out in the changelog when it ships (e.g. “Markdown preview: code block copy — VS Code 1.132 parity”) so users know it is intentional sync, not a settings bug.

Workarounds today

  • Copy from the source .md editor tab, or use standalone VS Code for preview-heavy files.

Impact

Low engineering risk (upstream already implemented), high clarity for anyone writing or reading Markdown in Cursor daily.
