The settings menu changed, and there is no longer any way to access a while pile of my important settings.
Steps to Reproduce
Open settings - try to see your MCP, Hooks, Rules, etc
Expected Behavior
Cursor should NOT change itself after we have installed it!!
Menus should stay where they were and the same as when we installed them, not change and vanish when you push unwanted UI updates out from your side.
Also - you need to honour our “update” settings - when we have this turned off, that means: do not update anything on our machine without our permission!
The menu changed on newer versions, again, unwanted and a severe setback to our workflow. On my version, the menu options totally vanished!
I need MCPs to do my work - so I’m stuck now. Newer versions of Cursor have newly introduced MCP caching bugs which are not being fixed, so I cannot upgrade easily either!
Yesterday on 3.10.20, the old Rules / Plugins / Tools & MCPs / Hooks tabs were still there under the banner. Now the Customize layout has moved one step further and those tabs are hidden, and on 3.10.20 there still isn’t a visible Customize entry in Settings. So it feels like everything is gone.
Nothing is lost and you still have access. The entry point is just temporarily via the command palette:
Ctrl+Shift+P then type Open Customize. You’ll find MCP, Rules, Hooks, and Plugins there.
If you prefer working with files, the configs still work directly like before:
MCP: ~/.cursor/mcp.json
Rules: .cursor/rules/
Hooks: the relevant hooks JSON
The fact that on your version the visible entry to these settings disappeared from Settings isn’t expected. It’s not something in your setup. I’ve flagged it to the team and we’re tracking it. On newer builds there is a visible Customize link in Settings, but I remember you don’t want to upgrade because of MCP caching. Using Open Customize should unblock you right now without updating.
On "update.mode": "none" and server-side changes, I already shared your stance with the team as feedback about the rollout mechanism from the previous thread. I can’t promise an ETA, but I’ll post an update if there is one.
Can you try Open Customize and tell me if you can see your MCPs there?
