Model returned error - ERROR_NETWORK_ERROR

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I can’t use any model in Cursor from Saturday’s evening (7th, March). I tried to re-install Cursor; change account; disable/enable VPN; CloudFlare Dns; Changing HTTP Compatibility Mode; updating firewall for Required Domains - nothing works.
This is critical bug, if unresolved I would need to unsubscribe.

I have errors like:
Request ID: 7e9572a5-24fe-4213-bba4-acd430c78f2c
{“error”:“ERROR_NETWORK_ERROR”,“details”:{“title”:“Network Error”,“detail”:“We’re having trouble connecting to the model provider. This might be temporary - please try again in a moment.”,“isRetryable”:true,“additionalInfo”:{},“buttons”:,“planChoices”:},“isExpected”:true}

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hey, thanks for the detailed report and diagnostics. The network side looks clean, so this is likely a server-side or routing issue.

The resource_exhausted error has been showing up for several users recently, especially with Composer 1 or 1.5 and Auto mode. A few things to try:

  • Manually pick a specific model instead of Auto or Composer 1 or 1.5. Try Claude Sonnet 4.6 or GPT 5.3 Codex directly. This has resolved the issue for most users with the same error. It also helps narrow down whether the problem is with specific model routing or your account in general.
  • Start a fresh chat each time. Don’t continue existing conversations. Context buildup can trigger resource_exhausted faster.

Quick checks:

  • Cursor Settings > Tools & MCP. Any MCP servers listed? If so, disable them temporarily.
  • Cursor Settings > Models. Make sure “Override OpenAI Base URL” is off and no third-party API keys are set.

A couple of questions:

  • When you say “any other” model, did you manually select specific models like Claude Sonnet 4.6 or GPT 5.3 Codex, or were you using Auto?
  • Did you try starting a brand new chat, or were you retrying in the same conversation?

The team is aware of capacity issues with Composer 1.5 specifically. Your request ID is logged. Let me know if switching to a different model makes any difference.

Hi Dean,

Thank you, I found the issue → I had Azure OpenAI enabled in Models tab
Strange, I never touched this part, but after disabling it, I can now use it; uff I’m back in the game

Anyways, thank you for quick help and sorry to bother you!

Kind regards,

Piotr
