Rate limited is what I see now from time to time in the window of what AI is doing. But then I’d expect a router to just route to a different model right? That is the whole reason for using a router
Workaround is using GPT5.6 Sol. Then at least i can continue working. But it seems all cursor models are down. Have tried already with Balanced but that also does not work.

This isn’t anything in your setup. Starting around 13:23 UTC today, the provider that serves the Grok models has had an outage. Auto picked a Grok model for your requests, so every retry hit the same unavailable endpoint. The “Rate limited” and “trouble connecting to the model provider” messages are Cursor retrying and then giving up on that request. You can track status at https://status.cursor.com.
Recovery is in progress. If you’re still seeing the error, try again in a minute or two, or temporarily pick a non-Grok model in the model picker (for example GPT-5.6 or Claude) until the status page shows resolved. @tiborrr already confirmed in the thread that GPT-5.6 Sol works as a workaround.
On the router question: Auto chooses a model for a specific request and retries that same model a few times before failing. It does shift traffic when a provider is unhealthy, but with a sudden outage like this, you can still get routed to the affected model in the first few minutes. We’re improving failover in these cases.
Let us know if the issue still happens after the status is back to normal.
