The first time I send a prompt when creating a new tab within a project, the agent stops working after a couple of seconds and I have to resend the prompt.
Steps to Reproduce
Create a project, open a tab and send a prompt. Wait for a few seconds.
One thing that will help us pin this down: in Projects, sending a new message while the agent is still working interrupts the current run and restarts it with the new message. So if the thread only looked stopped, resending actually cancels the work that was already in progress. On a brand new thread the first reply can also take 30 to 60 seconds to start showing anything.
Could you try this once and tell us what you see?
Restart Cursor.
Open the Agents window and open one of your Projects.
Click the + (New Thread) button inside the Project.
Type a short prompt (for example “list the files in this repo”) and press Enter. Start a timer.
Do not send anything else. Wait a full 90 seconds and watch the thread.
If it still looks stopped after 90 seconds, click a different agent in the sidebar, then click back on the thread.
Then reply with:
Did the answer appear on its own before 90 seconds, only after switching away and back, or not at all?
Was any text shown when it looked stopped (an error line, “Couldn’t start”, “Taking longer than expected”, anything)?
Is this a cloud Project or a local one?
If you can, a short screen recording of steps 4 to 6 would be ideal.

Good news first: your prompt is not being dropped. The agent did receive “list the files in this repo” the first time and started working on it right away. What you are seeing is a display issue in the Agents window: a few seconds after you send the first message in a new Project thread, the thread is wrongly reset back to an empty “New Agent” state with your text put back in the box, and the view jumps to another tab. The run itself keeps going in the background, and in your recording the second send reconnected to that same run rather than starting a new one.

Does this happen on every new thread you create inside a Project, or only sometimes? And does a new chat started outside a Project behave normally for you?
The team shipped a change for the first prompt in a new Project thread being reset back to an empty “New Agent” draft. It looks like you’re already on a recent enough version.
Could you try creating a couple of new threads inside a Project and let us know if the first prompt now sticks without needing to resend it?
