Hey there! Fable 5 is back and live, so this should be a quick fix on your end.
When it shows up empty like that, the usual cause is that your model list is still cached from when Fable was temporarily pulled in June and hasn’t refreshed. To force a refresh:
Fully quit Cursor (close it completely - a window reload isn’t enough) and reopen it, or sign out and back in.
Go back to Settings → Models → View All Models and look for Fable 5.
One thing to check once it reappears: Fable 5 is on by default for individual accounts with Privacy Mode off. If you have Privacy Mode enabled, you’ll need to accept Fable’s data-retention policy in your dashboard first. Details here: Claude Fable 5 docs.
If it’s still missing after a full restart, grab a screenshot of your model list and drop it here so we can dig in.
As you can see from my OP, I run Nightly so I typically install at least one new Cursor build a day. Cursor has been fully restarted many times.
Fable 5 is not in the model list.
I do not have data privacy turned on. When I click the link in the documentation for Fable 5 is just takes me to the dashboard but there is no pop-up to accept any additional data privacy settings.
I’ve tried explicitly adding the model by name to the model list and nothing happens.
I’m happy to grab a screenshot of the model list when I am back at my computer. Fable 5 is not in the list though.
Thanks for testing all of that - you’ve ruled out the usual suspects (restart, release channel, Privacy Mode), so this isn’t on your end.
This is a known issue we’re tracking: on some accounts the newest Anthropic models (Fable 5 and Sonnet 5) don’t show up in Settings → Models even though they’re available on the account. It’s not tied to Privacy Mode or the data-retention step, so you can disregard that part of my earlier reply - and you’re not the only one seeing it.
A couple of things worth trying while we work on a fix:
Click the refresh icon at the top of the model list (next to the search box) to force it to re-pull.
For some users the models have shown up on a fresh Cursor install (or a second machine). If you reinstall on your main machine, back up your Cursor data first so you don’t lose your chat history and settings.
I’ve flagged this with the team and will update here once the fix is out.
It really sucks to be paying 200$/mo for Cursor and be stuck on old models. I’ll also add that a public forum with a single reply a day as the only customer service channel when paying this much money is extremely disappointing.
I’ll try reinstalling. Where is the documentation so I don’t loose my session settings when dong so?
When the newest models (Fable 5, Sonnet 5, and Grok 4.5) all go missing together and a reinstall doesn’t bring them back, it’s almost always something in the network path between Cursor and our servers getting in the way before the model list loads: usually a VPN, proxy, corporate network, or antivirus/security software doing HTTPS/SSL inspection. We’ve traced this exact pattern (those same models missing, reinstall-resistant) back to antivirus SSL scanning before.
Worth checking, in order:
Run Cursor Settings → Network → Run Diagnostics and share the results (there’s a Copy button). That shows whether something is intercepting the connection.
If you’re on a VPN/proxy/corporate network, try once without it.
If you run security software with HTTPS/SSL scanning (Norton, Kaspersky, ESET, etc.), add an exception for Cursor or allowlist *.cursor.sh, *.cursorapi.com, and *.cursor-cdn.com, then fully quit and reopen Cursor.
In Cursor Settings → Network, set HTTP Compatibility Mode to HTTP/1.1 and restart.
One note on Grok 4.5: some models are restricted in certain regions by the provider, so if you’re outside the US that one may stay hidden regardless (see Regions).
If diagnostics come back clean and none of the above apply, let me know and we can dig in further.
For me it was Norton Antivirus blocking network traffic. I added *.cursor.sh, *.cursorapi.com, and *.cursor-cdn.com to exclusions in Norton 360 Settings > Safe Web and now I see all models.
