What does this number means in the task bar?
I don’t see any unread item in the app or specific icon/color that points to anything.
hi @Rdesbiens Thanks for the post! That number is a Cursor notification badge. It usually appears when an Agent/Composer task finishes or needs your attention while Cursor is not focused. Needs your attention can mean that it needs approval or an agent has completed that you haven’t looked at yet.
Opening the relevant agent/chat should clear it. If it stays around even after checking all recent agents, try restarting Cursor.
Lately I’ve been engaging Cursor’s help at identifying things like this. She did a good job trying to figure any of the 9 items mentioned but basically ended up shrugging her shoulders signifying it’s anybody’s guess. I asked her to report my hopes that this could mature to Android’s similar problem and now a long-press gets me the list of items and I can touch an item to jump to the source where I can fix it.
One can hope.
I think I’ll suggest it as a feature improvement.
We also have a small bug where the notification icon incorrectly displays archived chats… It’s possible that this is the behavior you’re seeing. That bug is still open, and I’ll let you know when it’s fixed!

A fix for the stuck Mac Dock notification badge is coming in Cursor 3.8. Please give it another try once you’re on that version!
A setting to disable it would be nice. I find it distracting
