"Open As Editor" breaks add context functionality when in a separate window

Steps to replicate:

  1. In the AI pane, click 3 dots and “Open as editor”
  2. Drag the Chat tab out of Cursor/into a new window
  3. Click on “@” to add context, or type “/” to bring up command list

Most annoying behaviour:
Sometimes it works, and the dropdown/popup shows to add context. Most of the time it does not, and no popup shows

Expected behaviour:
Dropdown and popups show, as they do in the AI pane

Secondary behaviour
Quite often also, the textarea stops working and you cannot enter any text until you start a new chat. There is various other weird behaviour as well such as the textarea scroll not working.

All these behaviours only occur when chat is opened as an editor and then put in a separate window. Everything works fine in the AI pane or if the editor is in the main window.

This functionality working is necessary for those who want to use cursor across multiple monitors

Hey, yes, the chat in the new window doesn’t have sufficient support yet. We plan to fix this in the future. However, for now, you can try a workaround: open the chat in a separate window and try restarting Cursor. When it reopens, the chat should function as well as in the main window.
