Cursor IDE

Describe the request

Right now, the Agent window is auto opened when starting Cursor. I’d like the option to auto open to the IDE. I know that there is serious development and improvements being pushed to the Agent Window, and it’s getting to a better spot for app development, but for data engineering and data science, the Agents Window is simply the wrong product in it’s current state.

The issue is that the Agents Window does not support rendering jupyter notebooks, which makes it unusable for all of our data intensive teams. Viewing notebooks as JSON is kind of a nightmare and antithetical to the point of using notebooks. Yes, we can create a shortcut with the editor alias, but taking away the setting before you have a viable experience for data engineers seems like you’re cutting out a sizeable minority of developers.

How are your data engineers using Cursor? We heavily utilize solutions that leverage jupyter notebooks (databricks, fabric, etc), and the Agents Window is a huge pain. Are you all on a different stack or are they all using the shortcut alias or just using CLI?

yeah its supper annoying, some of us still code and just use AI as help for template code, thats literally why i use cursor and not claude code/codex, would be nice not forcing on me this agent window, there is setting about default window and i have it set to editor window but seems like a bug because it ignores it and still agent window opens when i start cursor

Thanks for the feedback! This is something we’re exploring, but I don’t have a definitive answer to share at this time. In the meantime, it is easy to switch between your preferred windows by using File → Open in Editor Window or File → Switch to Agents View

I get how to switch views, it’s just frustrating to have my IDE open in a window I can’t actively use yet every time and to have the option to open in Editor Window by default removed in recent updates. I appreciate the advances made in Agents Window and the general direction, but to have to dismiss it every time I use cursor is annoying.
