Somehow I opened a chat on the right side, between the main chat and the right side bar (which has the tabs for terminal, changes,…). How can I close this side chat?
The sidechat killed my PC. After booting up again it is still there. While typing another side chat opened. Now I have three sidechat windows. I don’t like side chats, how to disable the feature?
It is a bug. When I clicked on new chatanother side chat opened. I had to delete the chat and start with a new one. The chat was corrupted.
Hey @PlanB, sorry about the trouble, especially the freeze.
Side chats open as tabs in the right-hand panel, next to the Terminal and Changes strip. Close one by clicking the X on its tab, or click inside it and press Ctrl+W. Open tabs are restored on startup, which is why it survived the reboot, but once you close it, it shouldn’t come back.
New side chats open from Shift+Ctrl+S, typing /side, the + menu, or Ask in Side Chat on selected text. If one appeared while you were typing, that shortcut is the likely cause. More here: Side chats. There’s no setting to turn side chats off right now, but they are easy to close if you don’t want to use them.
Clicking New Chat shouldn’t open a side chat, so could you share:
- A screenshot of the button you clicked and the side chat that opened
- Your Cursor version (Help > About)
- What looked corrupted in the chat
For the freeze, press Ctrl+Shift+P, run Capture and Send Debugging Data, add a short note, and reply here once it’s sent. That shares your logs with us privately.
