Play a sound when the agent is waiting for a tool permission

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

Cursor already has a chime when a chat finishes generating (Cursor › Composer: Should Chime After Chat Finishes). There is no equivalent sound when the agent pauses and needs me to grant a tool permission.

If I am in another window, it is easy to miss the approval card. The run then sits idle until I notice it.

Please add an optional sound (same style as the finish chime) when a chat is waiting for a permission/approval. A separate toggle would be ideal so people can keep the finish sound on without also getting permission sounds, or vice versa.

Hey @Kayla_Simpson, thanks for the forum post!

For local IDE agents, including subagents, Cursor already uses Completion Sound when an approval needs your attention. It plays when Cursor is in the background or you are viewing a different agent, and stays quiet when you are focused on the agent showing the approval card.

You can enable it under Cursor Settings > General > Notifications. System Notifications in the same section can also show a desktop notification when an agent needs input.

Currently, approval alerts share the same toggle and sound as the completion chime. A separate approval toggle and distinct sound are not available, so that part of your request is still valid. If Completion Sound is enabled but remains silent while Cursor is in the background, please share your Cursor version and whether this involved a local agent, subagent, or cloud agent.

Thanks for your reply, should I edit my request to ask for a distinct sound for when an agent needs attention? Sorry for not being clear.
