Again, I don’t blame Community Management staff because their hands are likely tied regarding what they can say, but what you’ve quoted here is a textbook non-reply. “Models of this size” says nothing about whether it’ll be Composer 3 (i.e. an RL’d open-weight model) or Grok Lite (i.e. a smaller version of a Grok base model). Obviously they’re going to release models of this size, otherwise they’d be getting undercut on the highest volume segment of the market. Everyone knew they were going to do that. That wasn’t the info anyone was looking for in this thread.
@VenEttore I agree with you.
I have to say, to me this situation feels like we are moving towards Composer models being gradually phased out and replaced by similar size “Grok Lite” models.
I think it would be a real loss for Cursor if there were no Composer 3 model that behaves similarly to Composer 2.5.
Composer 2.5 is the model I use most often because it is fast, cost-efficient, follows my instructions very precisely, and communicates clearly and understandably.
Grok 4.6 may be better at solving more complex problems, but in my experience it follows instructions less reliably, and its answers to questions are often unclear or sometimes barely make sense.
And we should not forget that we apparently won’t be getting any new OpenAI models either.
If the new smaller model is based on Grok, I really think this is something that needs significant improvement.
Please release Composer 3 soon !!!
Please release Composer 3 soon ,Grok4.7 too expensive!!!
About to sail to another AI seas… Can’t be more angry at Grok 4.7 costs and tokens hunger. We need a better Composer (3) or at leas access to glm 5.3 flash or Deepseek flash 4.1 or something similar to Luna (about to end access) COST efficient and a little more smart models. I beg those are the 70% developers daily drivers.. You refuse to hear the community … then the community take action.. Always been and always will.
Well said. If I were X senior management, I would be telling Cursor team you need to sell my model left right and centre and deprioritize your model. So yeah, here we are starting to see the dusk of Composer.
+1 For Composer 3
Composer feels more like a Senior Developer vs Grok 4.7 that feels like a intelligent person that can also code.
Yes, a development focused internal model is a must have. I’m fine with you basing it on whatever you like, Kimi, Mimo, Deepseek doesn’t matter as long as it’s programming focused and working. Grok is well informed but feels like a general purpose model. The development model might use it when it lacks information / knowledge.
+1 for composer 3, still using composer 2.5 for 90% of the task. Frontier model are good to define plan, but too expensive for task execution. Like most of the others here, more and more willing to sail away to get what I need.
Sonnet 5.5 medium allows you to code whole day without reaching your limits.
Its also available in Cursor
Yep, I’ve already bought a Claude sub and use it to define and review work while using Cursor for actual implementation. If Cursor/Anysphere/SpaceXAI don’t get their act together by the OpenAI departure in November, I’m dropping Cursor and upgrading my Claude plan. Considering I can get well over $1.5K worth of monthly usage on the $20/mo plan (comparing against API pricing) while getting much better models, it’s kind of a no-brainer for me at this point if Cursor doesn’t do anything to convince me otherwise.
We want “expensive but very powerful AI models” while at the same time wanting “inexpensive and decently powerful AI models.” I think Composer 2.5 falls into the “inexpensive and decent” class of models, but even so, I feel that Composer 2.5 is already outdated. With competitors like GPT Luna, Deepseek Flash, and GLM Flash around now, I think I will need to say goodbye to Cursor if there are no updates to this class of models.
(It doesn’t really matter what the new model is named, … but I like the name “Composer.”)
i’ve been using grok since they have released it, its really bad compared to composer 2.5, we really need composer 3, currently im just using sonnet 5.5, 10 times better than grok 4.7
Yeah same. Now that Haiku 5.5 is out I just have no use for cursor anymore. See you all when composer 3 is here.
