Please stop pushing the Agent Window so aggressively in IDE

Just updated Cursor. I’m using a dark theme, and now there’s this huge white button in the top-right corner.

Please stop pushing the Agent Window this aggressively. You’ve already sent multiple emails and shown several dialogs in the IDE. The button before this update was more than sufficient.

Hey, thanks for the feedback, got it. I’ll share it with the team, this kind of UI promo signal is really helpful.

If you want to hide the button right now, right-click the top bar near the button, then use the context menu to hide it.

I can’t promise any ETA for changes, but your feedback will be taken into account.

I just saw this. While I don’t mind seeing this kind of UI promo.

It probably needs a few things:

  1. match the theme being used, this sticks out like a sore thumb and is a bit of a distraction
  2. allow people to dismiss it and make it easy to dismiss

I like the agents window, but it hides the most important part, the code. The conversation is secondary to the code in my opinion.

As it stands, LLMs are very far from being trusted to implement production-ready code. I know other companies like OpenAI have adapted this UI (what you’re doing with Agents Window). It is important for us to understand the reality of things right now. LLMs are NOT good enough to be trusted and they NOT good enough to move code as a secondary part of the process.

Cursor needs to focus on what is important, allow engineers and like-minded people to code faster, not take over the whole process. Because we ultimately want quality, not slop, and that is what Cursor should aim to be.

@iHal9000 Great comment. You said exactly what I wanted to say. When I first saw the Agents window, I immediately understood what I think the real aim is – hide the details as much as possible and just trust what’s going on. For actual engineers, this is an absolute NO NO – not ever.

But to be fair, it’s possible Agents Window is just Cursor’s answer to Claude Code – if Anthropic is doing it so should we. But this is why I don’t use Claude Code – it’s trying to hide too much and I have to use other tools outside of Claude Code to do the real engineering work. That’s fine if Claude Code is all that existed. However, with Cursor being in VSCode, I can do so much within one single tool and have less stuff open on my workstation, which is much more efficient.

I would just VERY much like the Agents window to have an equally sized/blaring Editor Window button. Right now it’s buried in the menu. What we be really nice is if the buttons in both windows had an Open [Other] Window, but also some modifier like “Switch to [Other]”. One could easily choose if I want them both open or I want to move between them. PREFERABLY focusing on the same workspace or folder. (I have some projects that require a workspace setup for multiple repos working together, like “code” and “database” repos.) (Thanks, Gemini, for the image!)

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

The new “Agents Window” shortcut notice in the top-right corner is very distracting because it stands out from the rest of the window, no matter what you do — even if the Agents Window is already open.

We don’t need a persistent advertisement that the Agent Window exists. This is annoying.

Please tone it down :folded_hands:

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Cursor Editor window
  2. See “Agents Window” badge in top-right corner of window

Expected Behavior

“Agents Window” badge uses a muted color matching the user’s chosen color theme to be much less distracting.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hopped back into Cursor and now it’s always defaulting to the Agents view, even after I switch to the editor view. Quitting Cursor and re-opening it doesn’t open my previously open editor, and using cursor . to open a project also just opens the Agents view. I’m sorry I actually want to look at my codebase, but this is super disruptive.

Hi @christianhall Sorry for the inconvenience. There is some user testing that is going on that varies across versions and users, so users may see different behaviors with regard to the default view that appears when they open Cursor. We appreciate your sharing this feedback here.

@christianhall You can use this command to open Cursor in the IDE view:
cursor . --classic

Thanks for the workaround! One engineer to another, I don’t think a substantial number of your users are going to like having their workflows disrupted like this

To the Cursor Product and Design Team,

I am writing to provide some incredibly blunt feedback regarding a recent UI decision in Cursor—specifically, the “Agents Window” button that is permanently anchored in the top-right corner of the editor.

To put it as plainly as possible: I have absolutely zero interest in this button or the feature it is pushing. Forcing this unremovable element into my workspace is not just an oversight; it is actively detrimental to my user experience. It permanently occupies valuable screen real estate, serves as a constant visual distraction, and feels like an aggressive push for a feature I simply do not care about.

A professional development environment should respect the user’s autonomy over their workspace, not force permanent UI clutter upon them.

Please introduce an option to hide or disable this button immediately.
