Plugins create team rules that can't be disabled

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

When adding Plugins from the market place, some come with team rules. As a user it is not possible to change or disable these.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Install a Plugin that has team rules; Eg ‘Create Plugin’.
  • Go to 'Rules, Skills, Subagents.
  • Under Rules there will be a rule “Keep Cursor plugin manifest, paths, and component metadata valid during plugin authoring.” that you cannot change/edit, disable.
  • Since you are not actually part of that "team’ you also do not get to manage it in your Cursor teams dashboard.

Expected Behavior

Add option to ‘Disable’ these rules.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Additional Information

Note: the point isn’t the example rule I gave, the point is that many plugins add rules you might not want to use or want to edit but can’t.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Thanks for reporting this. You’re right – currently, rules that come bundled with Marketplace plugins can’t be individually disabled or deleted. The only option right now is the global “Include third-party Plugins, Skills, and other configs” toggle in Cursor Settings > Rules, but that’s all-or-nothing and affects all plugin content, not just specific rules.

This is a known gap that we’re tracking. Granular control over individual plugin components (rules, MCP servers, etc.) is something our team is aware users need.
