Pro quota exhausted: Why does Cursor block me and force Pro+ instead of slowing down?

I am a Pro subscriber. My monthly Fast quota is fully exhausted, but why is Cursor completely blocking me and forcing an upgrade to Pro+ instead of just letting me continue with a slower speed?

Hey, thanks for the question. I’ll clarify how Pro works right now.

Auto isn’t a separate unlimited plan. It’s smart routing between models. Requests via Auto use the same monthly included Pro pool as the other models. Once the included amount is used up, access is blocked until the monthly reset. That’s what the banner Set a new on-demand limit to continue means. It’s not forcing an upgrade to Pro+.

The mode that was slower but kept working existed before, sometimes as a first-month promo, but it’s not an active policy now.

What you can do without Pro+:

  • Wait for the monthly reset.
  • Turn on on-demand usage via the Set new limit button. That’s pay-as-you-go with its own spending cap, so you can keep going past the included amount.
