Hi, I just resolved this issue while trying to install the Python extension in Cursor.

After updating the Python extension in VSCode, the error message disappeared in Cursor. This makes me wonder about the relationship between extension installations in Cursor and VSCode. But it works anyway. Closed for now.

I’ve exactly the same problem, can’t install the debugger. What do you mean by “After updating the Python extension in VSCode”? I’ve updated both VSCode, VSCode internal and Cursor - same error.

Actually, you can install it using an older version (the newest that works for me is 2024.2.0 - you can do that by clicking on the gear icon, then choosing “Install another version…”

I’m still having this problem. Several people have reported this on GitHub and here and yet, there’s no fixes or responses.

Oh well, I’ve installed the debugger, but next thing it does is to fail **Could not find debugpy path**

I think the most annoying is lack of any response. This issue has been reported for atleast a month now and not a single comment here nor at github issue was written by the stuff. Worst support ever. Even “guys we’re sorry this is not priority for us” or “we don’t know how to fix this” would be so much better.

Seems to have been fixed with the latest release since it’s based off of a newer version of VSCode
