Hello everyone, may I ask why when I open two conversations in the cursor, one runs normally while the other frequently shows the messages ‘reconnecting’ and ‘thinking longer than expected’ back and forth?
It’s most likely not the fact that there are two chats, but the difference between them. “Reconnecting” means the connection to our servers went quiet for about 30 seconds and Cursor is retrying the request. “Taking longer than expected” means the model still hasn’t started responding after about 40 seconds. Both messages are much more likely with a large conversation the request is heavier and takes longer to start and with a slow or unstable international connection. So it makes sense that one chat works fine while the other one, which is longer and heavier, keeps stumbling.
What usually helps:
For the chat that keeps reconnecting, start a new chat for the next task instead of continuing a very long one. Long conversations get slower with each message.
Cursor Settings > Network > switch HTTP Compatibility Mode to HTTP/1.1, then fully restart Cursor and try again.
If the issue still happens, please send:
Cursor Settings > Network > Run Diagnostics and paste the result here.
When the chat gets stuck on “Reconnecting” again, open the chat menu three dots in the top right > Copy Request ID and paste it here.

Your Cursor version Help > About.
One note: with Privacy Mode enabled, we can’t see request details on our side, so the Request ID and diagnostics are the main things that let us dig deeper. Let me know how it goes.
Hey, happy to help. Once the stuck chat gets stuck on “Reconnecting” again, send the output from Run Diagnostics in Cursor Settings > Network and the Request ID for that stuck request, and we can dig deeper.
And before I forget, for a new task try starting a fresh chat instead of continuing a very long one, then switch HTTP Compatibility Mode to HTTP/1.1 in Cursor Settings > Network and fully restart Cursor. On an unstable international connection, this often helps a lot.
