Questions about Future Subscription Billing Models

Hello, we have two questions regarding the billing model and Plan mode to consult:

  1. For users on the legacy pay-per-use plan, when executing tasks in Plan mode, if the model poses a question to the user and the user responds by selecting an option or providing additional input, will this interaction count as one usage charge?
  2. Will the platform reintroduce the pay-per-use subscription option in the future?

Hey, good questions. Let me address both:

  1. Plan Mode billing on legacy pay-per-use

Cursor’s current billing model is token-based, not per-interaction. When the model asks a clarifying question and you reply, it’s not counted as a separate usage charge. Instead, the tokens used in that exchange (input + output) are deducted from your usage pool. So the cost depends on how many tokens are used, not how many back-and-forth messages you send.

You can check your real-time usage breakdown at https://cursor.com/dashboard/usage.

  1. Pay-per-use subscription

The current plans (Pro, Pro+, Ultra) already include a usage-based part. Each tier comes with an included API usage budget, and you can turn on on-demand pay-as-you-go usage if you need more. So in a way, pay-per-use is already built into the current pricing setup.

If you’re looking for something different from what’s available now, can you clarify what you’d want from a standalone pay-per-use option? That’d help us understand your use case.
