Describe the Bug

Updating to the latest versions completely breaks standard IDE layout customization. The workspace is forcefully locked into the new “Agent Window / Glass layout” paradigm. Standard VS Code UI behaviors—such as custom sidebar placement, layout drag-and-drop, and standard terminal positioning—are completely restricted and unresponsive. This is a severe functional regression for multi-monitor setups and standard development workflows.

I have just wasted over an hour trying to fix my workspace and debug this forced layout change. The lack of documentation or simple toggle forced me to completely wipe my local state and downgrade to an older version (v3.9.16) just to recover a functional environment.

Steps to Reproduce

The IDE layout must remain highly customizable, adhering to standard VS Code behaviors. Users should have a clear option to completely disable the “Agent Window/Glass layout” and retain the classic, flexible editor interface.

If Cursor continues to force restrictive, non-standard UI paradigms that hurt productivity, I am going to cancel my Pro subscription and switch to another AI solution integrated into a proper, developer-centric IDE.

Hi @Alex_p, Thanks for the post, and I hear your frustration. We still support the classic IDE view that you’re used to - you can switch to it by going to File → Open IDE. In the classic IDE view, you can still customize windows the way that you’re used to.

Cursor’s Agents View (Glass) offers slightly different window customization; you can still click and drag and drop different windows, it just behaves slightly differently from what you might be used to in the IDE. Let me know if you have any follow-up questions, and I’d be more than happy to help!

Thanks for the follow-up!

I reinstalled the new version and was able to successfully switch to Open IDE.

The interface bug I experienced during the first installation—which completely prevented me from moving the different windows around—didn’t happen this time. That first install definitely behaved very strangely, but everything is working perfectly now.
