Is there any way to remove Grok from Cursor completely? I don’t want popups about Grok. I don’t want emails about Grok. I don’t want to see it anywhere in Cursor.
Hi @spandexqueen Thank you for the post. There isn’t one master switch, but here is how to turn off each piece:
The popups. Those are one-time announcements (the one you likely just saw is for Grok 4.7, which launched today). Each announcement shows once per account and then does not come back, so closing it is enough. There is currently no setting to turn announcements off entirely.
New chats switching to a Grok model. If your model picker keeps landing on Grok when you start a new chat:
- Open Cursor Settings (Cmd+Shift+J).
- Go to the Agents tab.
- Under Conversation, find “Default Model”.
- Change it from “Cursor Default” to “Last Used”.
New chats will then keep whatever model you last picked.
Emails. Use the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any Cursor announcement email. That turns off product and marketing emails for your account (account and billing emails still come through). If a tip about Grok Bot ever appears above the chat box, the X closes it, and it only shows a limited number of times.
